Reese & Monkey the Dog

Say hello to Reese.  Who could resist this sweet face?  My awesome co-worker Scott agreed to help with my photo skills and let me take some photos of his beautiful daughter Reese.  I really do have awesome co-workers.  I met up with  the whole family,  Amy, Scott, Reese and their adorable dog Monkey this Saturday morning for a fall photo session. Reese is so cute, I hope Scott lets me photograph her again!  Thanks again to the whole family!

Photo Session with Amber

My wonderful co-worker Amber agreed to help me out with a photo assignment. I was tasked with creating a response to a photo that inspired me.   I chose Smoking Suzie by Nick Knight.  I loved the colors and the contrast between the subject and the background.  These are some of my favorite images from the quest to form my response image. Amber did a great job. Can you believe she thought she couldn't model?!  Thanks Amber!  You make a gorgeous subject!

Adventures and Routines: The Honeymoon

In our vows we said we'd love each-other though adventures and routines. This sums up our relationship in a perfect little word  package.  When we booked our honeymoon to Costa Rica, we got slightly more adventure than routine than we expected. Earthquakes, floods and plagues couldn't stop our good time!  OK so the flood was a down pour in the rainy season and the plague was a head cold BUT the earthquake was real! We had an amazing time.  These are some of my favorite images from the trip.

Light, Color and Heat

These are my ridiculously good looking friends Matt and Diana.  They were so kind as to help me out with my photo assignment for this week, the focus was on color and light.  We did a mini photo shoot in a Chicago suburb hotel room to pass the time before a friend's wedding reception and these were the awesome results. I wish I could take credit for how amazing they look but I'll have to pass that one to their parents. I hope this wasn't our last shoot!  I mean come on, aren't they sexy? Thank you guys!  I hope you love them as much as I do.

Faces of Evie

I am working on taking more photos of people.  Our wonderful friends, Jon and Chrissy let me snap a few photos of their adorable daughter on a trip to Portland in May.  These are some of my favorite photos from that day. Enjoy!

Halsted

I love dogs.  Whenever I see one I light up with joy. Lucky for us we have one who we treat like he's one of our kids (or our only kid).  Haslted has been  a part of our family for a little over a year and it has been wonderful getting to know him.   He has an interesting personality with the same range of emotion as a 16 year old boy.

The other day as I made my morning coffee and took my vitamins, his big amber eyes were looking at me, then over at his water bowl and then at me again. Mind you this is a subtle movement, he doesn't really move his head; just his eyes. I didn't even hesitate, I reached down and picked up the bowl, filled it with water and placed it back on his mat.  He walked over to the bowl and lapped it up.   It made me think about our amazing relationship with our dog.  It may just be my perception of him, but the way he carries himself and how he communicates is very human.  He tells us when he's hungry,  when he wants to go to the park, when he wants to leave the park, when he wants to cuddle and even says "I love you".  All without saying a word.  It's all with a look.  Sometimes I forget that he's a dog.

I am always trying to capture the expressions on his face and the look in his eyes with my camera.   The good news is that he's either becoming a better model or I'm getting faster with my camera controls because I got some good shots of him this weekend.   Here's some yellow on yellow action for all you dog lovers out there. :)

Winter in Paradise

In Seattle, the snow is a hazard and after three days of inaccessible roads, office closures, lack of public transit, power outages, and western Washington being declared in a state of emergency; the snow is melting.  I dread the snow here because it puts the city on lock down and it could turn your 20 minute commute into an 4 hour ordeal.  It's a problem unless you have a sled :). Seriously- YouTube sledding in Seattle.

I needed a reminder that winter is beautiful so I started looking through my photos.  Here's a picture from a trip up to Paradise in Mt. Rainier National Park. I like this image because it feels peaceful.  Something about a blanket of snow makes everything quiet and still.  It also reminds me that "to everything there is a season" and in  few months this field will be filled with wild flowers.  We should enjoy it while it lasts. Happy Winter!

Looking Forward to Spring

It's been snowing in Seattle and in my opinion it's not pretty snow. So instead of posting a picture of snow covered everything, I decided to take look through my photos from last spring with the hope that it would give me an escape from the winter weather.  Here are a few images from a trip to Butchart Gardens in Victoria, B.C last May. These make me happy and give me something to look forward to. Enjoy!

My mother's personal favorite.

Sunrise

A wise lady once told me that fire is a healer. Think about it, fire places, candle light, the yule log- few things set the tone like a warm flame. So this got me thinking...  if fire is a healer, no wonder I'm so drawn to the sunrise and the sunset.  I really feel like every time I get to enjoy one that I'm being given a gift.  I'm not sure how else to explain it other than I feel lucky.  And I am lucky, during December and January the PNW has had outrageously beautiful sunrises and some fantastic sunsets. These are a few of the shots from the first weekend of the new year.

The Resolution

This year I resolved to take my passions more seriously.  My love, my family and my creativity.

This blog is my new years resolution to take my photography more seriously in lieu of the day-to-day and all of life's obligations. This blog is about my creative journey through 2012 and beyond.  It's about growing as a photographer. I'm not a professional.  I'm just a girl who gets lost taking pictures.  Maybe some day that will change. Until then, I will keep shooting.
